Biography
Dazzling pop fans for over a decade as the lead of Canadian favourite – multi-platinum and JUNO Award-winning band Marianas Trench – the always eccentric Josh Ramsay released his solo single, We Should Be Friends, featured in the motion picture Adventures in Public School. It’s one of those signature Ramsay tunes; an acoustic love ballad propelled along on a simple riff plucked out on a National steel guitar with one of those rising choruses that the man has a penchant for. Just think about Stutter, Haven’t Had Enough or Carly Rae Jepsen’s Sour Candy for examples.
When long-time friend and producer of Adventures in Public School, Josh Epstein, asked Ramsay to write a track for the film, he jumped at the opportunity, “Josh (Epstein) and I are friends, we actually studied acting together,” said Ramsay. “So when he contacted me about writing for the film, I was in. Soundtrack work is something that really interests me, but it’s always about fitting it in. Josh (Epstein) sent me a cut of the movie and I loved it! I thought it was really quirky,” says Ramsay. “I actually wrote the song about an hour after I saw the movie. I took my dog for a walk in the woods and I came back and there was the song.”
Given that Adventures in Public School had its World Premiere at the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival, won the best comedy feature film award at the 2017 Edmonton Film Festival and received a Best Original Screen Play nod at the Canadian Screen Awards, Ramsay certainly landed his song in a solid feature. After the film made its round of theatres, the track was released as a single with an accompanying video containing a montage of snippets from the movie.
